The Digital Revolution in the Dental Lab: How JS Lab Became One of the Country's Fastest

The Client

JS Lab has been the largest dental laboratory in the Czech Republic since 1993. But size didn't mean modern: for years, running more than 14,000 orders a year meant juggling paper forms, half-digitized spreadsheets, and processes that lived in different systems that didn't talk to each other — order management, denture calculations, billing, procedure records, and communication with dentists.

At that volume, every gap in the process is also a compliance risk: dental labs have to track materials and batch numbers under EU MDR regulation, and handle any complaint or defect the same way. A paper trail doesn't scale to 14,000+ orders a year without something slipping through.

We'd already built JS Lab's presentation website, so when CEO Jiří Sedláček decided it was time to fix this for real, he came back to us — not to a new agency.

Our Solution

We didn't just digitize forms — we rebuilt how an order moves through the lab. Every order now runs through its full lifecycle inside one application: intake at the dental practice, model production, CAD design, CAM manufacturing, a trial fitting back at the practice, finishing, and dispatch. Each step is assigned to the right technician or dentist, with pricing, deadlines, and even a 3D odontogram of the patient's mouth attached directly to the order.

Getting there took close work with JS Lab's own technicians and dentists early on — sitting with the people who'd actually use the app every day, not just the management team, before we wrote a line of code.

Two things used to live outside that flow and cause the most friction: money and materials. So we brought pricing and invoicing for every denture into the same system, and built inventory tracking for materials and batches — the exact records JS Lab needs to handle a complaint under EU medical device regulation without a paper trail.

We also moved communication between dentists and technicians into the app itself — replacing phone calls and paper notes with messages attached directly to the relevant order.

Built on Laravel and Vue.js as a Progressive Web App, so it runs on any device — including offline, on the lab floor.

How We Work Together

We've worked with JS Lab on two-week sprints since day one, with a standing call every two weeks to walk through progress and priorities. Because this system runs a working lab, not every issue can wait for the next sprint — problems that affect today's production get fixed by how much they actually disrupt the lab floor, not by their place in a backlog.

CEO Jiří Sedláček has owned the priorities from day one. The people using the app every day are dental technicians, CAD technicians, and the dentists JS Lab works with. On our side, a delivery manager is the main point of contact, backed by a small, consistent core of developers.

The Result

JS Lab went from running on paper to being one of the fastest, highest-quality dental labs in the country. Hundreds of dentists and technicians use the application every single day.

Partway through the collaboration, we saw that what we'd built for JS Lab could work for other labs too — so we productized it as MyDentLab, now offered to dental laboratories beyond JS Lab. That's not something you do with a tool that's just good enough — you do it with one that actually works.

For JS Lab itself, though, MyDentLab isn't a side project — it's the operational heart of the lab, eight years into a partnership that's still active today.
